According to initial information, the fire's initial cause was sparks from so-called sparklers—pyrotechnic devices used for visual effects—that ignited the ceiling made of highly flammable material. The causes are being investigated. The fire broke out during a concert by the band DNK at the nightclub.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski wrote in a statement on Facebook that the government was "fully mobilised and will do everything necessary to deal with the consequences and determine the causes of this tragedy"
