The revenue at 8 major supermarket chains in the country dropped by almost half during the one-day boycott organized by citizens.

According to data from the Public Revenue Office, the total revenue of the eight largest retail chains by midnight on Friday amounted to 114,293,367 denars.

In comparison, on Thursday, the GPRS system of the Public Revenue Office recorded a total revenue of 212,782,151 denars.

"Last Friday, on January 24, the total recorded revenue amounted to 213,985,705 denars. A comparative analysis of data from yesterday and the previous Friday shows a 46.59% drop in total revenue across the eight largest supermarket chains. Compared to Thursday, the decline in total revenue stands at 46.29%," the Public Revenue Office reported.

The call to boycott supermarkets this Friday was organized through social media in response to rising food prices, inspired by a similar movement in Croatia. The trend is spreading across the region to countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
